South Africa's third-largest national park and the easiest place in the Eastern Cape to see elephants in the wild, roughly an hour's drive from Gqeberha.
About Addo Elephant National Park
Addo was proclaimed in 1931 to protect the last remaining elephants of the Eastern Cape thicket. It has since grown into a vast conservation area running from the Karoo edge, through dense valley bushveld, down to the coast and marine reserve.
The main game area is malaria-free and can be explored on your own in an ordinary car on well-maintained gravel loops, which makes it a practical option for families and first-time safari visitors. SANParks runs the park, including its rest camps, picnic sites and guided activities.
What to expect
