OR Tambo

The inland district behind the Wild Coast, centred on Mthatha, and the landscape most closely tied to Nelson Mandela's early life.

This is deep-green cattle country: open grass hills, homesteads scattered up the slopes and the N2 running through the middle of it. Mthatha is the commercial centre and the place everything else in the district connects to.

Qunu, Mvezo and Mqhekezweni all sit within an hour of Mthatha, and the turnoffs to Coffee Bay, Hole in the Wall and Port St Johns leave from here.
